Sustainability Statement
Cape South is committed to an eco-friendly environment without compromising our guests’ enjoyment and comfort.
We understand that all businesses create an environmental and social impact through their activities, Cape South is no exception. Thus we try to actively reduce any adverse effects by buying sensibly, using resources efficiently, disposing of waste responsibly and providing an environmentally and socially responsible experience to our guests.
Our sustainable environmental practices include the following:
- Where practicable low-energy light bulbs are installed.
- Motion and light sensitive sensors are installed on exterior lighting. Solar lighting is used to mark pathways.
- We recycle rubbish.
- Our water is from a spring and also collected from the roof and filtered.
- We use our clean waste water on our gardens to water the grounds.
- Our toilets are dual flush.
- Our showers are fitted with a flow reduction valve.
- We use biodegradable and environmentally friendly cleaning products.
- We donate our linens/towels (when replacing with new) and any unwanted items to the local hospice shop.
- We always shop with reusable bags.
- Where possible we source our products from local or Fair Trade producers.
- We have a programme in place to plant trees and shrubs which are native to this area in order to encourage bird life.
- Our planned planting of renewable gum trees is now mature enough to be annually copiced for guest firewood.
- We buy locally produced quality art and crafts where possible and support the Te Hakakino Waimarama Maori tourism project.
- When we upgrade appliances, we will choose the most energy-efficient models.
- We offer employment to local residents first.
Cape South ensures compliance with relevant environmental legislation and regulations.
