Hawke's Bay Food and Wine
With all of our wonderful Hawke's Bay food and wine, a visit here satisfies even the most discerning appetites!
Cape South is the perfect base for a wine and food escape. This may be one of pure indulgence, or you may like to roll up your sleeves and throw yourself into a hands-on cooking experience.
There are more than three dozen reasons to tread the Hawke's Bay Wine Trail, and they all offer a warm welcome at their cellar door for wine tasting, as well as many alfresco winery dining options.
Hawke's Bay is the oldest established wine growing region in New Zealand. Our wine is exceptional - notably Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon dominant wines and classic red blends - especially from the acclaimed terroir at Gimblett Gravels. There is also outstanding Chardonnay and white varietal wines.
Today, Hawke's Bay is known as New Zealand's most diverse wine producing region, but the area has much more to offer than superb wines. With a long and distinguished heritage in producing some of New Zealand's finest foods, this is home to both large scale and artisan food growers and producers. The Hawke's Bay Food Trail offers the chance for food-lovers to discover many epicurean delights.
You can drive yourself around the Food and Wine Trails or join a professional wine tour operated by an experienced guide with in-depth local knowledge. Cape South recommends Grape Escape, a small and personalised company operated by Greg Beachen.
Grape Escape design wine and food experiences for casual imbibers and wine aficionados alike. They are a great way to meet like- minded people and share an appreciation of Hawke's Bay's fantastic wine and food.
